Making Your Reading Fun!

I promised earlier this week that I would share with you the type of books that I am reading since I have retired after 34 long years of devoted service. They range from sleazy to sexy to adventurous. To be politically correct, I do still read a few books related to the business world.

My Daily Routine.

Sleep until 10 A.M. CST after staying up most of the night reading a new book I downloaded to my iPad.

Go to the gym to do stepping, senior exercise and strength exercise – So much fun with the older group.

Visit with new-found friends. I clean the house, but it is not a priority!

Back home to take care of the garden and visit with my lizard, XELA.

Meet X-E-LA!  He visits on the patio every morning while I am drinking my tea.

It’s time for lunch. My meals have changed dramatically. I eat like a bird.

After lunch, I am usually on the laptop or reading my book for the day.

I do carve out time in the afternoon to give my healthcare consulting business quality time and to plan my next trip to exotic places that I haven’t seen before.

I make a point to write no less than 500 words per day for my next book. One day, I’m going to have a NY Times bestseller.

Let’s talk books.

Here is a list of some of the books on my Kindle that I have already read. Some are from traditional bestseller authors, but most are from independently published authors, a hidden treasure of writers. I have downloaded 80 more on my laptop. As you can see, a drastic change from leadership books.

WRITERS BLOCK-WHAT SHALL I DO?

Here are some funny quotes that may identify how you are feeling when you are experiencing writer’s block and worrying about poor book sales?  Laughter is like medicine for writers.

“When you’re looking for the light at the end of the tunnel, a buddy doesn’t just have your back… A buddy brings the map.” from Stephen Geez’s book BEEN THERE, NOTED THAT: ESSAYS IN TRIBUTE TO LIFE.

Been There, Noted That: Essays In Tribute To Life: Observations, Inspiration, Remembrance, & Noteworthies To Share

Find your buddy by joining a book club. Tell them that I sent you.

Feast upon these quotes from the book, BUTTER MY BUTT AND CALL ME A BISCUIT by Alan Zullo and Gene Cheek.

Butter My Butt and Call Me a Biscuit: And Other Country Sayings, Say-So's, Hoots and Hollers

Concerning consequences: “Don’t let your mouth write checks that your rear end can’t cash.”

Concerning ego: “Some people are so full of themselves, you’d like to buy “em for what they’re worth and sell ’em for what they think they’re worth.”

Concerning poverty: If you are flat broke and want to run off the bill collector say, “I don’t have a pot to pee in nor a window to throw it out of.”

BOOKS AND DREAMS

Have you ever measured the quality of a book by the intensity of the dream you have about the characters in the book?

You know that it is time to re-read a book when you find yourself dreaming about the characters. I am an avid reader. I will read most genres. I often dream about what the Antagonist is going to do next. When that happens, I know its time to finish the book or re-read the book.

The character that I dream about is Alex Cross in James Patterson’s books. You guessed right. I have read most of James Patterson books. What’s your all-time favorite author? Share in the comment section.

Tyler Perry played Alex Cross in the movie. Absolutely awesome!

Books touch you in such a way that you allow them to invade your inner thoughts. You wonder what you would do in a similar situation and can’t resolve until you come up with your ending.

Books make you laugh. They even bring out the worst in you. Sometimes, you will find yourself talking out loud at the characters. Other times, you are reaching for a tissue to wipe the tears and dripping from your nose. Mingled among those reactions could be a few curse words. Your heart is beating so hard from fear that you jump up and turn all the lights on in the house.

Then comes the deep breath when it’s all said and done.

That’s me!

When I kick off my shoes, I am really into a book

Or, do you identify so with a character in a TV series that you wonder and dream about what he/she will do next? My favorite characters of all times on a TV show are Jason and Sonny on General Hospital.

I am looking for that up and coming author who can keep me reading their books like James Patterson. I may have found the next dream invaders.

Which up and coming author’s books speak to you in such a way that you keep coming back for more? Share in the comment section.

I read both fiction and non-fiction books. I read books about effective management and leadership techniques while employed. I also read many books on how to prepare your financial nest egg for retirement. I would sprinkle a few memoirs in the mix. I read the books my children and grandchild read in school which was one of my reading priorities. Books about historical events did not capture my fancy. It’s not to say that they were not important, it’s that I focus on being the best I could be at what I did. Continuous learning was important to me and remains a top priority.

LETTING GO OF YESTERDAY

YESTERDAY

Do you need to break free from emotional bondage? Today is the day.

Looking back over your life, you could find something from yesterday that you need to let go. Yesterday is gone forever. They are just memories. You can’t change the past no matter how hard you try. Dwelling on “what if” can’t bring you peace, or a magic wand Continue reading

Melania Trump Official White House Portrait

Unlike first ladies, Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton who raised daughters in the white house, Mrs. Trump is raising a son. She is clearly a very devoted mother to her young son. She has a passion for fashion as evidenced by her stunning fashion statements. Very little is known about Mrs. Trump as she is still developing her platform as a first lady. Mrs. Trump tends to keep a very low profile.

She inherits an old hat from her grandmother’s estate, but it belonged to her grandfather.

This is no ordinary hat, but a being from an alternate dimension. One with special powers.

Lizzie and the hat don’t exactly hit it off right away, but when her best friend’s newborn is kidnapped by a ring of baby traffickers, Lizzie turns to the hat for help. This leads her deep into her family history and a world she’s never known.

Lizzie gives up everything to rescue the babies. She loses her jobs and may wind up in jail before it’s over. Along the way, she and the hat may have a new way of making ends meet.

Humorous and fun, The Hat is novella length.

HERE IS WHAT GRANDMA THINKS ABOUT THE BOOK

A talking Hat with magical powers calling the shots? Wow! Unusual Indeed!

Lizzie has no idea when she takes the box from the moving van that it could contain a magical HAT that her grandfather once owned. She wants something to keep so that she can have a keepsake of her grandmother. Lizzie learns the Hat has the ability to transport a human from six hours away back into her apartment by manipulation of the hat’s shape. The HAT has the ability to control minds by taking control of one’s brain. Through the Hat, Lizzie St. Laurent, a waitress, and landscaper turns detective in search of one stolen baby but eventually discovers a baby ring where she, with the help of the HAT, must rescue all the stolen babies.
